The Stonewall Committee is a non-partisan educational and advocacy organization that works to promote understanding, equality and respect for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in Central New York through educating the public, increasing political participation, lobbying and working with elected officials at the local, state and federal levels of government, and working with diverse groups and coalitions.

We sponsor the LGBT Booth at the New York State Fair, co-ordinate the annual Flag Raising at City Hall in the City of Syracuse, present Free February Flicks (educational videos), host Town Hall Meetings, issue action alerts on legislative issues, publish the Pride Book and Community Directory, make presentations on legislative issues, attend the Pride Festival in Syracuse, and publish periodic Updates with information for our community and our allies.

We lobby in support of the Dignity For All Students Act, GENDA (Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act), Marriage Equality and other legislative issues of concern to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

We are the oldest LGBT community organization in Central New York.

We will attend the annual Conference of the New York State School Counselor Association, on October 23 and 24 in Syracuse, NY to distribute materials on addressing bullying and the needs of LGBTQ students in public schools.  This pressing issue is addressed in the September 27 issue of the magazine of the New York Times.
